The Wayne Township Fire Department EMS division is comprised of 30 highly trained emergency medical professionals. Our four Advanced Life Support ambulances respond to over ten thousand 911 calls annually. Wayne Township’s primary coverage area is thirty six square miles of urban area on the west side of Indianapolis and the department also assists surrounding communities on a routine basis. Our crews boast a six minute and seven second average response time which puts an Advanced Life Support ambulance on scene minutes ahead of the national average. Once on scene, our paramedics employ state of the art equipment such as Philips cardiac monitors/ defibrillators, Rad 57 carbon monoxide meters and IV fluid warmers to mitigate life threatening emergencies. In addition to routine calls, our crews assist with a number of special events, most notably the Indianapolis 500, One America Mini Marathon and the NHRA Nationals. The medical training that our Firefighters and EMS personnel receive is second to none as we train with health care professionals and physicians from an array of specialties. Our crews have most recently received training from neonatologists, pediatric trauma surgeons, trauma and battlefield medicine from U.S. military special operations and local trauma surgeons, stroke and level one cardiac care in the Cath lab setting. Wayne Township takes great pride in the EMS division and the professionals who work around the clock bringing the forefront of emergency medicine to the citizens of Wayne Township and its surrounding communities.
