Byron joined the Wayne Township
Fire Department at Station #9 (now Station 84) in January 1992 after a
time away from the fire service. Byron initially started in the fire
service in 1976 with Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department in
Cloverdale, Indiana (approximately 40 miles west of Indianapolis). Byron
was very active with Cloverdale until 1983 when he resigned upon getting
married and moving away from the community. However, Byron never lost the
desire for being a firefighter. Upon moving to the west side of
Indianapolis, Byron’s wife found she was going to have to share him with
the fire department again. Byron completed First & Second Class Fire
School in the fall of 1991 and was selected as the Student of the Year.
Byron helped re-establish the Cadet Program and was the departmental Cadet
Advisor for 3 years. Byron has held the rank of Lieutenant, Captain, and
Battalion Chief prior to becoming the Deputy Chief of Volunteer Services.
Byron has also been active as a photographer and videographer for Wayne
Township for use in training, investigations, and documentation.
Byron is employed full-time as a Systems Analyst at Brylane in
Indianapolis. Byron is a graduate of IUPUI in Indianapolis with a B.S. in
Computer Technology from Purdue University.
Byron has certifications as a Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II, and
Instructor I.
Byron has been recognized for his service and dedication, as
Firefighter of the Year, as Officer of the Year, and with the Chief’s
Award. |
