Emergency Medical Services

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) units of the Wayne Township Fire Department respond to emergency calls made by residents, businesses and visitors to our service area 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. We also routinely respond outside of our service area assisting neighboring agencies whenever necessary.

Wayne Township is pleased to be able to provide care on both the basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS) level. BLS care is performed by Emergency Medical Technicians who undergo at least 120 hours of classroom and clinical/hands on training.

ALS care is performed by paramedics. Paramedics are first trained and experienced as EMTs before going on to complete another 1,100 plus hours of specialized training at a hospital certified to offer this type of education. Wishard Memorial Hospital of Indianapolis is the sponsoring/training hospital for Wayne Township's EMS programs.

All certified personnel have successfully completed examinations in their respective specialty given by the Indiana State Emergency Medical Services Commission, the state regulatory agency for pre-hospital medical care.
