Fire Chief Gene Konzen


Chief Konzen has enjoyed a 27 year career in the fire service, beginning at Wayne Township Fire Department as a cadet, followed by 12 years with Pike Township Fire Department. In 1999, he applied and was hired at Wayne Township Fire Department, becoming part of the original hiring for the department.

Gene began his career at Wayne Township as a PIO and has served in several ranks and positions before being appointed to the Fire Chief’s position in 2005. Gene served as Fire Chief until 2007, when he returned to shift as a Battalion Chief in Safety. While on shift, Gene helped develop the Area 31 Career Center Fire Science Program.

Gene is a graduate of Vincennes University, receiving a degree in Fire Science. He is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Indiana Association of Fire Chiefs (in which he serves as a board member), and the Wayne Township Republican Club (Past President).

Deputy Chief Rick Scott


Chief Scott began his fire service career as a volunteer in Wayne Township in 1977. Nine years later he was hired as a career firefighter by Pike Township Fire Department. After 15 years of service to Pike Township, Rick had the opportunity to transfer back to Wayne Township as a career firefighter. During his service at Wayne Township, Rick has held many positions within the organization. Currently he serves as the Deputy Chief of Administration.

Rick is a graduate of Columbia Southern University,  and holds many achievements from the National Fire Academy, including Executive Planning, Fire Service Financial Management,  and Executive Analysis of Fire Service Operations. He is a member of the International Association of Firefighters, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the Indiana Fire Service Instructors, and the Wayne Township Republican Club.

Deputy Chief Matt Stewart


Chief Stewart has 23 years in the fire service, and has held the ranks of firefighter, engineer, lieutenant, captain and battalion chief. He is currently serving as the Deputy Chief of Operations. He is a Firefighter II and a Fire Officer II, Paramedic, Georgia Smoke Diver, and serves on Indiana Task Force 1. He also works with the IndyCar Series as a paramedic.
